Size
Desktop monitors typically measure 19 to 43 inches diagonally, but ultrawide displays can reach 49 inches for extra-large desks. Some monitors under 19 inches are specialist panels for Raspberry Pis or USB-connected portable displays for laptops.

Having a huge viewing area is excellent, but your desktop space may not allow a huge monitor. Additionally, larger screens cost more. If you have limited work space and a budget, a 24-inch monitor can display multipage documents and streaming video. However, nothing beats watching a movie or playing a game on a large screen, so if you have place on your desk, a 27-inch or 32-inch monitor is a great value. To recreate a movie theatre experience on your PC, try a large curved display if space is not an issue.

If you want to replace two monitors with one, try an ultrawide model. These have aspect ratios of 21:9 or 32:9 instead of 16:9, panel sizes of 29 to 49 inches in both curved and flat variants, and resolutions of 4K/UHD and Wide Quad High-Definition. 

Pixel reaction rate is the time it takes a display pixel to change from black to white or from one shade of grey to another in milliseconds (ms). The faster the pixel response rate, the better the monitor will display video without ghosting or blurring. Gaming displays with a 1ms gray-to-gray response are best, although even 6ms monitors can show games without blurring or ghosting.

Resolution
The maximum number of horizontal and vertical pixels a monitor can display is its native resolution. A display with 1,920-by-1,080-pixel native resolution has 1,920 pixels across the width and 1,080 from top to bottom. The screen will display more information with higher resolution.

Full HD (or 1080p) displays, which are common among modern 22-to 27-inch monitors, feature a native resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. Many 24-to-32-inch monitors have WQHD (2,560-by-1,440-pixel or 1440p) native resolution. Most UHD or 4K (3,840-by-2,160-pixel) monitors are 27 inches or larger. UHD monitors are great for seeing detailed images or tiled or side-by-side pages.

Aspect Ratio
How you use your display determines its ideal aspect ratio. Digital content developers may prefer a 16:10 ratio for toolbars and other vertical space. While ultrawide formats have taken market share from 1080p and 4K desktop monitors, the 16:9 aspect ratio remains the most popular.

Ultrawide monitors are impressive, but for those who want the the greatest productivity panel or an immersive gaming experience like no other, a 32:9 monitor may be the best option. 

Brightness
High dynamic range (HDR) capability will significantly increase the peak brightness of your display, which may vary by panel type. Most monitors are bright enough for an office, although high-end versions push the brightness limit. Most monitors have 300 to 350 nits, but high-end ones boast 1,000 nits and often give over 700. In a bright environment or near huge windows, extra light may be helpful. Too much light causes eye strain.

HDR
Visuals can be greatly enhanced with HDR. Most PC monitors lack the brightness to make use of it, and even the finest ones appear poor. Refresh rate

Display Types
LCD monitors are cheaper than LED monitors. These high-performance screens use liquid crystals. Commonly, cold cathode fluorescent lights (CCFLs) are used to illuminate these.

LED displays provide superior picture clarity and brightness while using less power than LCDs. Their design is thinner and more modern. LCD monitors with sophisticated LED backlighting provide a wonderful viewing experience. LED displays are bright enough to use outdoors without glare.

An Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) monitor produces high-quality images without backlights due to its flat panel display. When compared to older models of LCD screens, this technology offers a number of advantages. Some have compact panels and low energy use. OLED monitors emit no harmful waste, making them eco-friendly. 

Types of Panels
The appearance and functionality of your new display are highly dependent on the panel type utilised in its construction. 

Twisted Nematic (TN) displays, once the most prevalent panel type, offer superb images and fast response times, making them great for gamers, whereas immersive RPG players may prefer a VA or IPS screen. TN’s quickness will appeal to e-sports fans. TN monitors have poor viewing angles and washed-out colours. The most affordable displays usually have TN panels. TN is essentially obsolete because VA and IPS panels have gotten cheaper. This is still seen on some budget gaming monitors, but most manufacturers now use VA or IPS.

VA panels, also known as MVA or PVA, offer superior colours and viewing angles but may experience ghosting. Their response times may seem fast on paper, but they may not be in practice. VA displays are used for gaming due of fast response times, however they have lower colour accuracy than IPS.

Although IPS displays are more expensive, they offer richer colours and almost horizontal viewing angles. One drawback of IPS panels is that they aren’t always as responsive as TN displays, which is why some people think they’re not good enough for gaming.

IPS monitors have quality control concerns, and backlight leakage causes a glow in dark images on most of them. However, IPS has come a long way and is now widely regarded as the benchmark for gaming monitors; many people strive for IPS panels with high refresh rates.

Webcam
The monitor could feature a webcam, an independent camera, or no camera. Webcams help with online meetings, business conferences, video chats with friends and family, streaming games, and more. Webcams on most high-end monitors enable communication and facial recognition. Integrated webcams are usually positioned at the monitor’s centre and can’t be moved.

An independent camera can be placed in the corner or centre as needed. Buy a camera separately and mount it for different functions if the display doesn’t have one. Choosing a monitor with an in-built webcam for streaming, meetings, etc. is not a good idea.
